Product Review : Avery Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheets, 9 x 12 Inches, Box of 50 (73601)
This review is from: Avery Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheets, 9 x 12 Inches, Box of 50 (73601) (Office Product)
I initially used this for "chore cards" for my children that easily got soiled, bent, wet, etc and loved the results so much that I bought some more. It is super easy to use and makes paper items that you want to last so much more durable. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I found that sometimes it didn't cut real smoothly and I would have to go back and re-trim the edges, but that may be the paper cutter I was using. Also, it has a split back to make peeling the paper off easy, but it is only in one place, so if you are using it for smaller items, it can be hard to get the backing off. Overall though I really love this product and can find all sorts of uses for it! Plus the price was great.

Grid marking on back assists when trimming for smaller items. Top strip helps position laminate and eliminate air pockets. Adequate thickness for ease of handling and quality coverage.

First off, don't be scared off by magazine articles that describe the process as being super difficult. It's really very easy. I'm not sure why most bead magazines (where ice resin is trending now) make it such a big deal.
In any case, this is a two part epoxy that you mix in equal parts. For stuff like jewelry, you will be using only tiny amounts, and it's pretty hard to screw up. The first thing I did was enclose a photo in a bezel. Trick 1: use a photocopy from a laser printer, not an ink jet (not sure why but it matters). Using your printer's options, lighten up the picture somewhat more than you'd think...it will look darker in the bezel. I cut the photo strip of paper to fit, put a tiny bit of stick glue to hold it in place, and settled it at the bottom of the bezel, making sure it was all the way down. Next, I mixed the two parts (only about one lid full of each), mixed in a plastic cup with chopstick, and poured in. Trick 2: pour it where you can leave it... Read more

I wanted to start making resin jewelry. I got this resin and a mold. It's easy to use, just follow directions. I have a lot of fun making jewelry pieces with stickers & sprinkles... I also use paper by printing designs or using things I find.
Tips: >> Make sure to measure carefully, if not mixed right the pieces will come out gooey and will not harden. >> No need for mold release if using a mold, I just pop the jewelry right out. I have the 'Environmental Technology Castin' Craft EasyCast Resin Jewelry Mold, 11 Popular Jewelry Shapes On One Tray' ($6.95 on Amazon). Sometimes it's tough to get them out, but just let the pieces dry a bit longer, they shrink somewhat in the drying process. I never have a problem. >> Work in a well ventilated area. I got headaches working in my home without the windows open or a fan running - I also moved into a larger room to help and now I have no problem. >> When using paper, fabrics, or candies make sure to coat them in... This is actually a great product for the price. It's easy to mix, just make sure you follow the instructions carefully. Don't use anything that you want to use later while mixing (only use things that you are going to throw away) and don't make the mistake of washing out anything in your sink, it will leave a horrible film in your sink. Oops. But the product is great!

This review is from: Kumihimo Starter Kit: KumiLoom Disk/Bobbins/Booklet/Cord
I used to live in Japan, and I fell in love with Japanese crafts while there. I had a marudai, made of beautifully polished wood, with both a round and square top. I sold it after we moved into our retirement home, and I made myself a handheld high-density foam marudai, or rather, a series of them. They work beautifully and store in a very small space. When I saw this KumiLoom kit with the bobbins, I immediately ordered it. The bobbins make a world of difference, eliminating tangling! I like making ornamental braid from size 3 and size 5 pearl cotton to use as button loops, as you can get DMC pearl cotton in shades to coordinate with whatever you are making.
This is very soothing work, and unlike a full-size marudai, takes almost no time to set up and can fit in a purse or tote-bag to take along during stressful times, such as at the doctor's or hospital. This is simply a wonderful product.
One general note of warning: Give yourself some time to play around with... Read more

This review is from: Kumihimo Starter Kit: KumiLoom Disk/Bobbins/Booklet/Cord
This is the best starter kit I've seen for Kumihimo braiding. The directions, both in the book and the "quick-start" directions on the kumiloom, are easy to understand. The kit even includes cord so you don't have to buy anything else to start on a project. I was braiding within minutes!
The lightweight kumiloom disk is made from high quality, dense foam - not "styrofoam" as another reviewer claims. It's small enough to carry with you for travel. The plastic bobbins are most helpful in keeping the cords from getting tangled with one another. I am very happy with the quality and value of this kit.

With the very clear step-by-step instructions and photos, I was making braids in no time! I've had a great time trying all different kinds of threads.
The disk and bobbins are high quality and hold the proper tension on all types and thicknesses of cord, ribbon, thread, etc. to ensure your braids will be perfect.
This is a great "carry along" project, small and lightweight, for those times when you're waiting (doctors, hospitals, kids to finish practice, travel and more). It's also relaxing and a great stress reliever!
