I had a marudai, made of beautifully polished wood, with both a round and square top. I sold it after we moved into our retirement home, and I made myself a handheld high-density foam marudai, or rather, a series of them. They work beautifully and store in a very small space. When I saw this KumiLoom kit with the bobbins, I immediately ordered it. The bobbins make a world of difference, eliminating tangling! I like making ornamental braid from size 3 and size 5 pearl cotton to use as button loops, as you can get DMC pearl cotton in shades to coordinate with whatever you are making.This is very soothing work, and unlike a full-size marudai, takes almost no time to set up and can fit in a purse or tote-bag to take along during stressful times, such as at the doctor's or hospital. The directions, both in the book and the "quick-start" directions on the kumiloom, are easy to understand. The kit even includes cord so you don't have to buy anything else to start on a project. I was braiding within minutes!The lightweight kumiloom disk is made from high quality, dense foam - not "styrofoam" as another reviewer claims. It's small enough to carry with you for travel. The plastic bobbins are most helpful in keeping the cords from getting tangled with one another.
